A presentation in Calumet tonight takes a look at the origin of the copper that has shaped our area’s history.
Michigan Tech Professor emeritus Bill Rose will present “Keweenaw Geomystery: Why is Native Copper Here?” at the Keweenaw Heritage Center at 7:00pm.
He is a guest lecturer in the series on “Why is the Keweenaw so significant that the U.S. Congress elevated us to the unique level of a national park?”
Dr. Rose has researched volcanoes on several continents. His studies on the Keweenaw Fault, the lava under our feet and the critical importance of the minerals in the rocks which spurred the industrial growth of America helps answer why our peninsula is one of only 407 national parks.
In addition to Volcanology, Dr. Rose’s focus has included Remote Sensing, Volcanic Clouds and Geoheritage.
The presentation is free but a offering will be received.
