The Keweenaw Co-Op announces the opening date of its relocation to downtown Hancock. Over the weekend the Keweenaw Co-Op announced it will open in the 600 block of Quincy Street on October 16th. The Keweenaw co-op began working toward moving from its current location on Ethel Avenue several years ago. The board of directors organized a capital campaign for the project’s majority funding, as well as leveraged grants with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the USDA, and the city of Hancock. In June 2023 the Co-Op held a groundbreaking ceremony that welcomed the community to the construction site of the 4000 square foot grocer. The Keweenaw Co-Op has provided fresh produce and groceries to members and the copper country since 1973. It originally started in the backroom of the Karma Funky Café. The new location will feature new amenities such as a larger parking lot, more sales floor and storage space, and a new deli. Those interested in learning more about the Keweenaw Co-Op and the member-owned grocer’s plans for October can find more information here.
