With the strong possibility of upcoming floods along the ATV trails, keep a lookout for upcoming trail cleanup dates hosted by the Keweenaw ATV club.
“Basically is, we need help. We’re all getting older and we’re all in our sixties and seventies… so we need the younger people to start stepping up a little here. We have trail maintenance that the club is responsible for, and then that’s twice a year- once in the spring and once in the fall. So what it is is we go out and clean up the trails, clean our trails, make sure the signs are in place. Any damaged trees wise- remove that, any rocks in the trails – remove them, stuff like that. And it’s kind of a- Daryl [St. John] started it- it’s kind of an adopt-a-trail. These people will adopt a section of trail and [clean] it repetitively every year after that” – Trails Coordinator for the Keweenaw ATV Club, Mike McMahon
There are a few ways to get involved and join in the cleanups.
“There’s a couple ways they can support us. Number one, just getting your name on the rosters. The more people we have on our list, the more influence we have with the state. Number two, you can join up and come to the meetings once in a while and tell us what you think about the trails and what improvements we can make. Or number three, just jump in with both feet and help us with maintenance and trail development.” – President of the Keweenaw ATV Club, Daryl St. John
