A long awaited study from the Army Corps of Engineers says that the effort to keep the Asian carp out of the Great Lakes could cost at least 15 billion dollars. The study examined 13 aquatic nuisance species including the Asian carp, and describes eight options for keeping them from the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin. According to scientists, Asian carp are voracious eaters and pose a great threat to the Great Lakes ecosystem. The most expensive option is to physically separate the Great Lakes from the Mississippi River basin, a plan that would cost 18 billion dollars and take a quarter of a century to complete.
