The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is asking Governor Rick Snyder to reconsider his stance on a proposed plan to relocate their Marquette Casino.
According to a press release issued by the KBIC, the plan would be to move the facility to the Negaunee Airport Property, purchased by the tribe in 1999.
The new facility would reportedly be a five star tourism-entertainment destination resort, resulting in job creation and economic development.
The KBIC says they received approval from the Secretary of the Interior in 2013 but Snyder would not sign off on the project.
A plan to expand the Ojibwa Casino II in Chocolay Township is in development, but the KBIC wanted to make this final appeal to Snyder to allow the relocation project to move forward.
The tribe has requested an answer from the Governor by Sunday.
