Kayaker Dies In Gogebic County

What was meant to be an enjoyable spring kayaking trip in Ironwood Township has ended in tragedy.

Around 2:30pm Saturday afternoon, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police – Wakefield Post were dispatched to the Black River near Narrows Creek.

A member of a group of kayakers, 49-year-old Clint Mabie of Hurley, Wisconsin, suffered a head injury while kayaking down the river.

Mabie died as a result of his injuries.

No further details were released.

Officers and paramedics from Beacon Ambulance Service were assisted at the scene by Gogebic County Search & Rescue, the Ironwood Township Fire Department, Gogebic Count Victim’s services and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
