After a four year hiatus, Soberfest returns to Kesterner Park this weekend. Lead Organizer Deb Barna, says she started the event as a time and place for the community to gather, without the influence of alcohol or other substances. And she recognizes that many events throughout the summertime involve alcohol, in some fashion. This year the Soberfest returns to their roots with a simple picnic at the park.
Recovering from addiction can be a long and difficult process. Which makes building a support system is an essential aspect to recovery. By gathering with the community this weekend, Soberfest hopes to connect people.
Soberfest will take place at Kestner Park’s chutes and ladders pavilion. The event will go from 2 pm to 6 pm tomorrow. Attendees are asked to bring a meal with them, coffee, water and pop are provided. Join Soberfest this weekend to celebrate and socialize without the pressures of drinking.
