HOUGHTON — Although prayers are the most important act of worship in Islam, the religion goes beyond that to set divine regulations for all life activities in a very balanced way.
The presentation by Dr. Ahmed Taha presents the Islamic concept of life and its teachings in directing the spiritual, social, political, economic, scientific and activism needs of both the human and society in a comprehensive, balanced and harmonious way.
This understanding and application led to a long list of social and scientific achievements during the Islamic Golden age in service of humanity.
The correct meaning and application of the misunderstood and misused term of “Jihad” will be discussed as well.
The presentation will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday in Fisher Hall 135 on the Michigan Tech Campus.
Taha received a PhD in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion and is currently the technical program manager at the Supercomputing Applications, at the University of Illinois, at Urbana-Champaign. He is founder and president of the Urbana-Champaign Chapter of the Muslim American Society.
A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
The event, sponsored by Michigan Tech’s Muslim Student Association, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
