Just about everybody will have to be interviewed for a job someday.
The Interviewing Workshop and Meet and Greet on the campus of Michigan Tech is geared toward teaching the skills needed when sitting down with a potential employer.
Kathy Flagstadt with Michigan Rehabilitation Services said, “We’d like to give the students more exposure to job interviewing so that they can practice, so once they do an actual interview, they’ll feel more confident in interviewing and have self-esteem and confidence to get them through that interview and get that actual job.”
Friday’s event was co-sponsored by Michigan Rehabilitation Services and the Copper Country Intermediate School District, and was for 11th and 12th grade special education students.
Schools from the CCISD as well as the Delta-Schoolcraft ISD and the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Services Agency attended the 11th annual workshop.
The students also participated in the Reality Store where they learned other life lessons that will be helpful along the way.
The event is making a difference.
Horizons Alternative High School 12th Grader Eryn Fischer said, “Coming to the workshop last year actually helped me with interviewing skills, how to shake someone’s hand simply. I have a job now but I’m still coming to learn more things because there’s multiple things you can learn throughout this program.”
Those lessons learned will be invaluable in the years to come.
