Inmate Grabs Gun And Begins Shooting At Courthouse

The victims in the Berrien County courthouse shootings have been identified.

Five people were involved.

Sheriff Paul Bailey says his close friends, bailiffs Joe Zangaro and Ron Kienzle, lost their lives in the St. Joseph courthouse.

A sheriff’s deputy, James Aderberry was also hit, along with a female civilian who isn’t being named. Both are expected to be okay.

The shooter was an inmate, 45-year-old Larry Gordon.

He was being moved from a holding cell to the courtroom when he grabbed the gun.

The Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph is closed today after two bailiffs and a gunman were shot and killed.

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey said an inmate was in a corridor when a fight broke out and the suspect was able to grab an officer’s gun.

The suspect shot a deputy, two bailiffs and a civilian before he was shot by other bailiffs responding to the shooting.

Bailey says the inmate was in custody on several charges.

The deputy remains hospitalized.

Counselors will be brought in to talk with employees.

An investigation involving Berrien County detectives and Michigan State Police is ongoing.
