In Wake of Mass Shooting in Oregon, MI Gun Control Advocates Call for More Regulation

Gun control advocates are calling for more regulations on guns in Michigan following last week’s mass shooting at a community college in Oregon.

Linda Brundage of the Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence says Michigan citizens should not wait for the next mass shooting and should call or email their legislators and urge them to support bills to keep guns out of schools and require universal background checks.

State House Democrat Andy Schor, who is sponsoring a bill to end open-carry in schools, says President Obama, citizen groups and mayors are calling for a discussion on gun control, but Michigan’s Republican-led legislature is not having it.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero says he understands and respects the second amendment, but adds there are limits to every right and they need to inject some sanity.
