House Fire In Hancock

A two-residential house in Hancock is a complete loss after a fire ravaged the home in the early morning hours.

The fire occurred at 309 Scallon Street just outside of the downtown area, near Gino’s Restaurant.

Emergency personnel had to battle the immense cold temperatures outdoors as well the fiery blaze.

Hancock Fire Chief Joe Neher said the fire is believed to have begun on the second story and spread to the attic.

Two families had to be evacuated from the house, all of whom made it to safety, including a pet rabbit.

Two residents were taken to U.P. Health System Portage to be checked for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
