It’s budget time for Houghton County, and commissioners will open their monthly meeting today with a public hearing on the proposed spending plan. County Controller Eric Forsberg says the nine-million dollar budget will start out in the black… unlike last year’s budget, which began in the red. Forsberg credits the state… which will provide its full revenue-sharing contribution for the first time in a decade… and the Portage Health sale to Lifepointe… which puts that property on the tax roll for the first time. Airport manager Dennis Hext will discuss proposals for expanding the terminal, or building a new one. Commissioners will also consider estimates for repairs to the roof of the Houghton County Arena. The meeting begins at 5:00 in the commission chamber on the top floor of the County Building.
