With help from Michigan Tech, Houghton County has entered into an energy efficiency competition headed by Georgetown University. The grand prize? Five million dollars. But Houghton County Board of Commissioners chair Scott Ala, who has expressed great support for the project, says it’s not just about the money. Houghton County is one of approximately 35 entrants nationwide to advance past the first stage of the competition, which is open to communities with a population between 5,000 and 250,000.
