The Houghton County Commission meeting tonight will discuss a multitude of things.
The city will receive their audit back from Anderson and Tackman. There will also be discussion in regards to the Michigan Department of Resources (MiDNR) and Michigan Department of Environmental Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) capping the Lake Mine spring.
The township of Greenland requests support from Houghton in the transfer of the ownership of the spring. Greenland township will work with a variety of organizations to test the water and maintain standards. Hikers have been using the spring for years, and don’t wish to have the spring capped.
The MiDNR and EGLE cannot guarantee the safety of the spring, due to a severe lack of quality testing. The Houghton County Commission meeting is at 4 pm in the 5th floor conference room of Houghton County courthouse.
The Village of Calumet work session and the Laurium Council are also meeting tonight at 6 in their respective towns.
