The Houghton City Council will hold public hearings at their meeting.
There will be a public hearing for the 2023-24 proposed operating budget, and for the 2023-28 Capital Improvement Program. Some highlights of the Capital Improvement Program include a dog park, a splash park at Kestner park, improvements to Dee Stadium, lighting on trails of the Nara Nature Park, bike and pedestrian accessibility improvements through Houghton.
There will be further public hearings for the food truck ordinance, including a separate hearing for the ordinance regarding the fees for food trucks.
In New Business, the council will make decisions regarding the previous ordinances, and a decision regarding the implementation of a social district in downtown Houghton. The social district would allow the public to consume alcoholic beverages purchased from licensed vendors in a certain area, but they can only be consumed in the commons area.
The City Council will also make a decision regarding an application of a grant to improve water systems, and another grant for sewer system improvement.
There is also a request by police, public works, and city administration to make traffic changes to help with pedestrian safety.
The meeting will take place at the Houghton City council chambers at 5:30 tonight.
