There was a lot of discussions at yesterday’s Houghton City Council meeting. The council approved a renewal of the city’s trunkline contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation. The council authorized the signing of the agreement between Houghton, Hancock, Marquette and Marquette’s Local Development Finance Authority on the establishment of a SmartZone satellite. City Manager Eric Waara gave an update on the parking deck project and he says the city needed to make sure funds were available to complete the second phase of renovations. The council also approved to move forward on expanding Downtown Development Manager Susie Landers’s role to try and incorporate all businesses in the city instead of just the downtown area.
