Houghton City Council Meeting Recap

There was a lot to discuss at yesterday’s Houghton City Council meeting. The zoning board of appeals held a public hearing regarding a request for a sign variance for a Downtown Houghton business and City Manager Eric Waara says the board has decided that some changes to the ordinance may be in line.

The council also discussed the Capital Improvement Plan as well as the budget for 2014-2015. Waara says the biggest concern for the budget is mainly one thing: health insurance for city employees.

Also, the council approved a grant administration agreement and a 3rd party administrator management plan with the West Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region.
