Home Invasion Man Facing 20 Years in Prison

The Ishpeming man arrested Tuesday after a lengthy police standoff will be back in court on April 29th. 33 year old Robert John Rajala is accused of first-degree home invasion. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment yesterday in Marquette. Rajala is being held in the Marquette County Jail on $150,000 bond. According to police, Rajala had entered his girlfriend’s home in Ishpeming on Monday morning without permission and assaulted her. The woman was able to get out of the house with only minor injuries. She told police Rajala had been drinking and said he was going to kill people and also may have been suffering from PTSD. Police surrounded the residence and secured a warrant for the man’s arrest for first degree home invasion. After additional backup from the State Police Emergency Services Team arrived, Rajala surrendered after seeing the armored vehicle that troopers had on scene. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
