A lot of Michiganders will be heading home for the holidays next week, the most in eight years according to a new survey from AAA Michigan.
AAA projects more than 1.5 million Michiganders will journey 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving, which is nearly 1 percent more than the 1.4 million people who traveled during the last Thanksgiving holiday period.
Susan Hiltz of AAA says 1.3 million of those travelers will take advantage of significantly low gas prices.
However, Hiltz adds that despite improvements in the economy, consumers remain hesitant to spend at a level that would drive significant travel growth.
Last year Thanksgiving holiday spending was up 4.9 percent.
The projection for this year is a modest 0.6 percent.
The Thanksgiving holiday travel period runs from Wednesday, November 25th to Sunday, November 29th.
