High Lead Levels A Problem Throughout The State

Reports say the lead level problem in children is not limited to Flint, where there is a water crisis.

M-Live reports that thousands of other children throughout the state have elevated lead levels as well. That’s according to a 2014 study.

Areas includes towns such as Morenci in Lenawee County, and Nashville in Barry County.

And more than five percent of toddlers tested in cities such as Saginaw, Grand Rapids, Highland Park and Kalamazoo also had elevated lead levels.

However the sources of the problem in those cities could be varied, such as exposure to lead paint.

The report says no part of the state is immune from the lead threat.

The report was authored by Rebecca Meuninck of the Michigan network for Children’s Environmental Health, and researchers at the University of Michigan.
