Inclement weather forced an early end to Saturday’s Heritage Festival celebration in Calumet.
Organizers were pleased with the early turnout, as Agassiz Park filled up after the parade, and the sun tried to make an appearance. Unfortunately, clouds returned, and a cold breeze brought a persistent drizzle that sent spectators home. Activities were called off around 2:45.
The most successful event of the afternoon in Calumet was a few blocks away from Agassiz Park, where more than a hundred people toured the former Morrison School.

Some of the units will be subsidized for low-income tenants. Many of the original features of the building have been retained, including the hardwood floors. Lahti said a few of Saturday’s visitors were interested in moving in, but most were just curious…
The first apartments on the upper floors should be ready for occupancy within the next several weeks. Work will continue on developing office and retail space on the first floor. The Morrison School building had been empty for more than 15 years.
