The Houghton Energy Efficiency Team (HEET) will update the community on its efforts to help the people of Houghton County save energy at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21, at the Great Lakes Research Center on the Michigan Tech campus.
HEET aims to reduce the area’s utility bills and compete for the $5 million Georgetown University Energy Prize. The competition challenges communities to rethink their energy use and implement creative strategies to increase energy efficiency.
Melissa Davis, HEET energy manager, will provide an overview of upcoming events and activities, including a month-long Warm Up for Winter kick-off, an Energy Show, winterization workshops, home weatherizations and more.
A representative of the nonprofit CLEAResult will discuss the Home Energy Score program, which was developed by the US Department of Energy. Through the program, technicians assess a homes energy use, issue a score and offer suggestions for improving energy efficiency. The program will be available to UPPCO and Semco customers at no cost.
Katie O’Connell of the Michigan Conservative Energy Forum will talk about efforts to promote an energy policy that supports renewable energy and energy efficiency.
