Now is the time to sign up for health insurance as open enrollment commenced this past weekend. The Department of Insurance and Financial Services says whether Michiganders are enrolling for the first time through the Health Insurance Marketplace or purchased a plan last year, the agency has resources and information to help consumers evaluate and select a health plan that’s right for them. Those enrolling for the first time should visit the Federal Health Care website at healthcare.gov to fill out an application. DIFS Director Ann Flood says they must enroll for their plan by December 15 if they want coverage to begin January 1. She adds that consumers who are currently enrolled in a plan will automatically be re-enrolled if they do nothing unless they’ve received a notice saying they can’t be automatically re-enrolled for 2015. More information is available on the the DIFS Health Insurance Consumer Assistance Program’s website.
