Hancock could be getting its very own hard cider brewery.
The council approved the license for Gitche Gumee Cider Works, which will operate on North Lincoln Drive.
The company is still in the formative stage but the owners intend to use local sour apples for their product.
Other national brands use commercial-grade sweet tasting apples, so Gitche Gumee will certainly have a unique, Keweenaw flavor.
If the company is successful, their hard cider would first be available in local taverns before hitting store shelves.
