Hancock Unveils Level Three Charger in Downtown

Hancock has joined one of many communities connecting with each other through new technology. Yesterday the city of Hancock unveiled for an official grand opening a new EV charger near downtown, at the DDA parking lot at Franklin Street and Tezcuco street. The new level three charge station can fully juice up an electric vehicle in under half an hour. The station marks another charge spot for EVs in the Copper Country, with chargers also located in Houghton, Calumet and Copper Harbor.

It’s a bit of science project. You know, how far can you travel with an electric vehicle? Where should the service stations be located? Electric vehicle charger users, have to keep close tabs on that with their vehicles. There’s a charger in Houghton, Now there’s a charger in Hancock, and in Copper Harbor. This is a really strategic spot that will allow them to cover the amount of miles, depending on the weather conditions because we know that will impact the vehicle. But it’s really helpful to have something, that you’re confident you can get a charge here, and you shouldn’t have to worry about getting to at least Copper Harbor.” Morgan Impola, Manager of Distribution Engineering, Uppco

Electric vehicle owners will not have to worry too much about range anxiety now, in the Keweenaw peninsula. Now that travelers can definitely travel throughout the state with strategic driving. The state of Michigan is pushing to implement electric vehicle chargers and related technology throughout the state, both within communities as infrastructure and as a sector of the state’s economy.
