Hancock Resident; Retirees Honored

Hancock Resident; Retirees Honored – May 22, 2014 – Todd VanDyke
Bonnie HollandSeveral Hancock residents were honored at last night’s City Council meeting. Bonnie Holland received a plaque for her volunteer efforts, and service on the Downtown Development Authority Board. She thanked all the other volunteers with whom she’s worked. Charles Maki and Steve Witting were saluted as they retire from the Public Works Department. Maki has been on the job for nearly 35 years… and Witting for more than 28 years. Both were honored at a lunch last week. In other action, the Council continued to prepare for the 2016 Quincy Street reconstruction… approving a grant application for the streetscape project, and a contract with OHM to prepare options for upgrades to the water system during the project. Council members also voted to increase the paid vacation time for Hancock Transit drivers from five days to 10 days per year, after nine years of service. Drivers work a 35-hour week, and receive no other benefits or sick leave.
