Hancock Public Library Adds Preschool Reading Program

The national 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program has come to the Hancock Public Library.

The addition to the library’s offerings is part of the recent arrangement that has turned operation of the Hancock Library over to the Portage Lake District Library. The PLDL has been running the 1,000 Books program for several years.

Library Director Dillon Geshel says reading 1,000 books to your child before kindergarten isn’t as overwhelming as it might seem…

And, no, it doesn’t need to be a thousand different books…

The library helps, with some tracking aids, and some incentives…

To facilitate the program, the Hancock Library will host a used book sale this afternoon between 3:30 and 6:00, and tomorrow between 10:00 and 2:00. Money raised will purchase books appropriate for pre-kindergarteners.
