Hancock Police Honored By City Council

The December meeting of Hancock’s City Council started off with a presentation of City Life Saving Awards to three heroes on the Hancock Police Department.

Sgt. Ohtonen, Lt. Hiltunen and Chief Butler received the awards for a call that required the team to care for a resident in critical condition in October. It was stated that if the team had not performed CPR on the resident, he would not be alive today.

City Manager Glenn Anderson spoke at the meeting about future recycling and waste plans. The city is looking into restructuring their recycling and waste system. A new system was discussed that could save residents a few dollars a month. A committee was formed to further discuss these options.

The council approved the resignation of Kevin Hodur from the Hancock City Council. Hodur recently accepted a job in Nevada. This was his last council meeting. Comments by Glenn Anderson and Mayor McKenzie gave thanks to Hodur for his contributions to the council and to the community.

Hancock’s 5-year recreation plan was recently finalized. A public hearing to discuss the new plan will be held in January.
