The Hancock Planning Commission will look to move the city’s master plan forward to the city council. Last year the city of Hancock began working on developing its master plan for 2024 to 2029.
The city began its work early in the year, by bringing together the community for several forums, with the help of Progressive Architects and Engineers from Grand Rapids. During March and April 2023 Progressive A&E used various exercises and idea-generating programs to help citizens and leadership formulate Hancock’s needs and desires into a cohesive plan. During some of those exercises, the community identified several areas in Hancock that hold the potential to develop into centers of economic activity, housing, and recreation, including the former Finlandia University campus, waterfront area, HoCo Ice Arena, and the Business and Technology Park.
Tonight the planning commission will overview the master plan, reviewing the document’s language for comprehension, clarity, and mistakes a final time before moving it to the city council. If moved to the council, Hancock will consider adopting the master plan for goals in 2024 through 2029.
The Hancock Planning Commission meeting will begin at 6 pm inside city hall on Quincy Street.
