Hancock Photographer Roland Burgan Dies

Roland Burgan of Hancock died Thursday evening at Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock following a short illness.

He was 76 years old.

Roland’s father was part of the group that started radio station WHDF in Houghton in 1929.

WHDF is the present-day WCCY.

After his father died, Roland owned and managed the station until he sold it in the 1970s.

He was also an avid photographer and collector of historic photographs, particularly focusing on Hancock.

Many of his photos are part of the Roland Burgan Collection at the MTU Archives.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Memorial Chapel and Plowe Funeral homes.
