Michigan‘s county gun board permit system for concealed weapons would be scrapped under a pair of bills approved by the Michigan House on Wednesday.
The votes on the two bills were 76-to-34 and 81-to-29.
The bills have already passed the Senate, however they must return to that chamber for concurrence on amendments.
The measure transfers most county gun board tasks to local county clerks and the State Police.
This two bill package follows the governor’s veto of generally similar bills last year that he said contained language that would have lifted a concealed weapon prohibition for subjects of a personal protection order.
The new version does not include that language.
Sponsors say the package ensures promptness in permitting, and also reduces the application and licensing fee.
