The gubernatorial candidates and their running mates are now officially set for the statewide election in November. Both the Republican and Democratic parties held their statewide party conventions over the weekend where they solidified their tickets for the general election. On the GOP side, Governor Rick Snyder will again run with Lt. Governor Brian Calley by his side. Calley held off a tea party challenge by candidate Wes Nakagiri. Meanwhile, Democrats locked in gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer and running mate Lisa Brown. Democrats also nominated Michigan State University associate law professor Mark Totten as their candidate for attorney general and Detroit attorney Godfrey Dillard for secretary of state. They will face off against Republican incumbents Attorney General Bill Schuette and Secretary of State Ruth Johnson.
