The state has signed an agreement with a Flint engineering firm to find and assess the condition of Flint’s lead water pipes.
Governor Rick Snyder says the infrastructure study by Rowe Professional Services will take about a month.
He says the study is the next step of the plan to understand the system and to identify and prioritize the most dangerous pipes, then remove them in a safe and effective way.
The governor says they think there are approximately 10,000 service lines of which they don’t know the composition.
Flint Mayor Karen Weaver says she opposes the plan. She recently announced her own $55 million proposal to immediately begin replacing the city’s pipes.
She says more needs to be done by the governor and others to secure funding for her plan.
