Good Samaritan Bill Sent to Gov

A measure to protect EMTs and paramedics from getting sued if they provide emergency medical care while off duty is one step away from becoming law.

The measure passed the House on Tuesday and now awaits the governor’s signature. It passed the Senate last month.

Right now only doctors and nurses have Good Samaritan protections.

Providing care during an emergency, like a car accident, or at a sporting event would be okay under the legislation.

State Senator Goeff Hansen is sponsoring the bill.

The former firefighter and EMT says he’s helped at car crashes and when kids have gotten hurt at football games while off duty.

And even though Hansen did lend a hand then he says it would have been nice to not have to worry about being liable.
