Gogebic Community College receives a grant from the USDA Rural Utilities Service Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant program. GCC has been named one of the annual recipients of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant award. Grant awards range between 50,000 and one million dollars over three years in the program. As a part of the award, the Gogebic Community College Foundation has agreed to contribute 15 percent of the grant award toward the project. In 2022 Gogebic Community College faculty of Computer Science began work toward developing a RUS-DLT idea with the intent of providing technologically enhanced learning spaces to kindergarten to 12th grade in Gogebic Ontonagon and Copper Country intermediate schools. The project will enhance learning spaces on GCC’s Ironwood campus and at the Copper Country Center in Houghton. Educational and digital equity is a passion of mine, said Director of REMC1 Joshua Hine, adding he’s excited at the opportunity to share teaching resources in school districts not offered directly by GCC. In Partnership with REMC1, Gogebic Community College, has nearly completed technology buildouts for all locations, intending to have the program up and running fully by the fall of 2025.
