CALUMET – Keweenaw National Historical Park and Western U.P. Health Department invite the public to join a ranger on a 1-2 mile geocaching adventure around Calumet on Saturday, May 14. Participants will learn what geocaching is, see how fun it can be, and explore historic Calumet in the process!
Participants are encouraged to bring a smartphone or other GPS capable device, but it is not necessary for the event. Please meet at the paved parking lot across the street from the Keweenaw NHP Headquarters building, near the Alexander Agassiz statue 1:30pm. The walk will last for two hours, ending at 3:30pm
The event is free, with no pre-registration required.
The geocaching adventure is the fifth event in a series of Step Into History activities hosted by Keweenaw NHP and WUPHD through a grant from the National Park Foundation’s Active Trails program.
Keweenaw NHP was one of 25 national parks selected to receive a 2016 Active Trails grant from the National Park Foundation. The park, in partnership with the health department, will host a series of walks and other healthy activities throughout 2016.
