Michigan Tech’s campus is abuzz ahead of the winter carnival’s first events tomorrow night. While several Winter Carnival sporting competitions have taken place, and will continue throughout next week. The Winter Carnival Royal Coronation marks an official start to the century-old tradition.
“They went through their interviews and they really proved that they are some strong leaders and some great people to have on our campus. So I’m, just as well as you, excited to see what they have to bring this weekend. And it’ll be kicking off at 7 o’clock in the Rozsa Center, so if anyone is open they’re more than welcome to come and see what our students have to offer.”– Joe Dlugos, President, Blue Key Honor Society
Blue Key honor society has a lot of fun and excitement planned for the winter carnival. And even if the weather doesn’t quite cooperate, student leaders say that the tenacious nature of Michigan tech’s huskies will find a way to make the most out of what snow is left.
“We love to see the faces on campus. There’s not only students, because we do this for our students, get them out of their dorms, get them out on campus. Some of our students aren’t as active in outdoor events, so let’s get them out of their dorms or out of their houses to come down to campus to really experienced Tech. But like you mentioned, there are tons of families and alumni that come from the community. And it’s extremely special to see this. People enjoying the Keweenaw’s winter.” – Joe Dlugos, President, Blue Key Honor Society
Winter carnival will also include a brand new event, replacing the typical comedian invited to campus. This year Winter Carnival will invite a blizzard to campus in the form of Flip Fabrique and their mind-blowing acrobatics.
“So we have two different shows, you know, if you’re more sensitive to different elements of pretty active shows, that’s what the Saturday show event is for. But it’s roughly 75 minutes without intermission. The Rozsa has the ticketing online so you can go there. A little bit of an acrobatics kind of fun show. It’s a little bit different than our comedian we’ve had in the past few years.” – Joe Dlugos, President, Blue Key Honor Society
Winter Carnival brings plenty of joy to the Houghton area and invites the community to enjoy the fun as well.
