Free heart screenings returning to UP Health

Dr. Keith Wright from UP Health Portage will be checking the community’s cardiovascular pulse again this February. The free screenings have become an annual tradition in conjunction with American Heart Month. Health and Fitness Manager Angela Luskin says the exams are more comprehensive than a traditional physical.

Those people can still come in and get their full lipid profile. That includes cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, blood glucose, they’ll also get blood pressure screenings.

The testing is open to anyone in the community at least 18 years of age. Luskin says the operation is remarkably efficient. Participants can expect to be in and out of the hospital in just ten minutes. The event happens Tuesday, February 2nd at the Hancock campus. Registration is required beforehand and can be completed at this link.

The accompanying presentation is February 10th, and will be virtual this year. Dr. Wright provides tips to improve heart health and discusses the results. Luskin says there are normally around 100 people who take advantage of the free screenings.
