This weekend is a special one in Michigan for fishing enthusiasts. On Saturday and Sunday, everyone in Michigan will be permitted to fish without a license. The two days make up Free Fishing Weekend, an annual effort to promote Michigan’sw world-class fishing opportunities. While many will head out to fish on their own, there are many organized events going on locally, including the 24th Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby will be held at the Ontonagon Marina. Registration begins at 9:00 am, and the event ends with the awarding of prizes at 1:00 pm. The Rice Lake Fishing Derby in Lake Linden will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Clubhouse at Rice Lake. For more information on these events, head to the Community Calendar.
