Franklin Township’s supervisor is added to the Michigan Township Association Board of Directors. Mary Sears, Supervisor for Franklin Township, has recently been named the District 1 Director of the Michigan Township Association board of directors. The role encompasses Gogebic, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon counties.
The Michigan Township Association serves 1240 townships across the state as the largest municipal association in Michigan. In the District 1 director role, Sears will help guide municipal leaders in the ever-changing landscape of township government. She says she will listen to the problems and concerns of townships across Michigan lobby for solutions from state lawmakers, and relay ideas from one township to another.
Sears has served as the Franklin Township supervisor for seven years. She is also the president of the MTA chapter in Houghton County. She has served as a member of several local committees and organizations such as the Keweenaw National Park Advisory Commission, Houghton County Recreation Authority, Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce, and the Hancock Rotary. Sears is also the founder and chair of the Upper Peninsula Conservative Political Action Committee and a board member for Michigan CPAC.
