Franklin Township Crash Sends Driver to Hospital

A four-car crash near Boston Location Thursday evening sent one driver to the hospital for treatment.

State Police Troopers were called to the scene on US-41 in Franklin Township around 5:55 p.m.

They determined that a vehicle was stopped in the northbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Boston Location Road. A second vehicle was stopped, waiting behind the first. A third vehicle did not see the first two vehicles. It rear-ended the second vehicle, which was pushed into the first, and then out into the southbound lane. There, the second vehicle was struck by a fourth vehicle, which officers say was unable to avoid the collision.

One of the drivers was transported to UP Health Systems Portage for treatment by Mercy EMS. All other drivers and passengers were treated and released at the scene by Mercy EMS.

Names, and the extent of injuries, have not been released.

Troopers report that driver distraction was a factor in the crash.

Michigan State Police Troopers were assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, the Hancock City Police Department, Mercy EMS and Daves BP Towing.
