The Upper Peninsula Construction Council awards the annual Apprentice of the Year for 2023. Over the weekend the UPCC held its annual apprentice of the year banquet at the Island resort and casino, with more than 250 people in attendance. The annual awards recognize outstanding apprentices in the construction industry and raise awareness for skilled trades industries. 22 apprentices from across the Upper Peninsula were nominated for the prestigious trades award. This year’s 2023 Apprentice of the Year award was awarded to Frank Wierz of the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 111. Ean Beviens of the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 111 and Seth Coburn of the Millwrights Local 1510 were named a finalist for the Apprentice of the Year award. Careers in skilled trades offer opportunities to earn a comfortable living while solving complex problems in people’s everyday lives.
