Four men survived after their boat overturned Friday in rough waters on Ogontz Bay.
Michigan State Police troopers were called to the scene around 10:35 in the morning. They met three of the vessel’s occupants who had reached shore. The three said they had observed the fourth man clinging to the overturned hull for a time, but he had since disappeared, and they feared he had drowned. As officers searched for the drifting boat, however, they found the fourth man struggling to shore about a half mile away. He was taken by ambulance to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for exposure. The victim was identified as 51-year-old Kenneth Arthur of Allegan, Michigan. The identities of the other three have not been released. All will be okay.
Ogontz Bay is located near the north end of Big Bay de Noc, midway between Escanaba and Manistique.
