Despite being held 70 miles from Flint, the Republican presidential debate Thursday night in Detroit – hosted by Fox News – made little mention of the city’s water crisis.
Only one candidate, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, was asked a direct question about Flint’s lead contaminated water.
In his response, Rubio scolded Democrats for politicizing the crisis saying he doesn’t think the governor – or anyone else – woke up one morning and decided to poison the drinking water in Flint.
He commended Governor Rick Snyder for taking responsibility for the crisis.
The candidates were also asked about Detroit and if manufacturing can make a comeback in the city and if the federal government should step in to help Detroit’s crumbling schools.
Michigan’s presidential primary is Tuesday.
