Flint’s mayor doesn’t believe residents should have to pay for city water that is undrinkable, however Karen Weaver also concedes if people stop paying their water bill the city’s water fund will run dry.
The state, as part of an emergency funding plan before the legislature, has set aside $3 million for Flint’s utility. Weaver stopped short of saying that should go right back to water customers.
Weaver also says the city has hired the Virginia Tech professor who first uncovered the high lead levels in the city’s water to oversee state and federal water testing.
Marc Edwards will report direct to her. His salary is being paid by private donations.
