Ty Garbin pled guilty in Wednesday to charges of planning to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. He is the first to do so, among six men charged in the case. Garbin entered the plea in US federal court for the Western District of Michigan in Grand Rapids. It was accepted by Chief District Judge Robert Jonker, with sentencing scheduled for July 8th.
All six men face the potential for life in prison with no parole. They have been held since an indictment was issued in December. Trial for the others is set to begin on March 23rd. The US Attorney’s office reminds people that the guilty plea by Garbin does not rob the remaining suspects of their right to a presumption of innocence and a fair trial.
