Finnish Scholars To Offer Insights On Asylum Seekers In Europe

A pair of leading political scholars from Finland will share their expertise with a presentation regarding how the Finns are handling the more than 32,000 asylum seekers from the Middle East and Afghanistan.

Historian Juhana Aunesluoma from the University of Helsinki and Matti Jutila, a political scientist from the University of Turku, will present at 2 p.m. Monday, March 7 at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center.

The pair, both of whom are currently working at the University of Minnesota, will answer questions such as “How are the Finns responding to the asylum seekers?” and “What effect does this have in Finland?”

Both men presented on World War II from a Finnish perspective at the FAHC last year to a near-capacity audience, and are eager to offer contemporary insight to folks in the Copper Country on this visit.

The presentation is open to the public; donations are appreciated. For more information, call (906) 487-7302.
