Finlandia’s Business School Ranked Among Most Innovative Small College Business Departments

Finlandia University’s International School of Business has been ranked among the most innovative small college business departments by Business Research Guide. The ranking was published on the organization’s website in September.

Business Research Guide selected and ranked the top 50 from among the qualifying programs. Finlandia University was ranked 25th.

“We’re honored to have earned this recognition,” said Kevin Manninen, the school’s dean. “The International School of Business provides excellent learning opportunities for students interested in a career in business.”

Schools were selected as a result of their size (less than 5,000 undergraduate students), and their dedication to innovation, as defined by applying the following rating methodology: progressive majors and/or course offerings, global business emphasis and “wow” factor.

Finlandia’s focus in providing distinctive programs and experiential learning helped lead to the high ranking.

“We have a number of progressive concentrations such as healthcare management, arts management, sports management and international business,” Manninen said, adding that many of those are cross-curricular partnerships with other schools within the university. “We also have experiential learning opportunities. For example we have excellent internships with local, national and even international businesses and industry. Many of these have resulted in career opportunities for our students.”

The school also participates in a state-wide project management competition and organizes the FUEL Studio.

“The FUEL Studio is a student-run business inside of our Jutila Center,” Manninen said. “It’s a great opportunity for our students to practice the lessons they learn in the classroom.”

Founded in 1896, Finlandia University is a private, coeducational liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Finlandia University is located in the city of Hancock, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula just minutes from the southern shore of Lake Superior.

The International School of Business at Finlandia University offers an array of concentrations for students seeking a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
