Finlandia University is inviting the community to join students and employees on Wednesday, September 16 for the grand opening celebration and open house for the revamped Paavo Nurmi Center. The event will run from 4 to 7 p.m., and is open to the public.
The event will include an opportunity to meet staff, information on membership, group fitness classes and personal training options, tours of the facility, refreshments and door prizes, including a grand prize of a one-year membership.
The Paavo Nurmi Center was built in 1969, but over the last year has went through a $1 million renovation that includes a new strength center and aerobic studio space.
This investment advances Finlandia’s plan to grow its learning community and enhance the student experience at Finlandia with new NCAA Division III athletics programs. The plan, announced in March 2014, has Finlandia resurrecting cross country, Nordic skiing and women’s golf, while also adding football, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s volleyball, and wrestling.
